Gender Specific Addiction and Substance Abuse Treatment Program
One of the unique characteristics that separate The Recovery Center from other addiction and substance abuse treatment programs is that all of our group therapy sessions are gender-specific. We believe that an important component of successful addiction treatment is for the patient to become comfortable and connected in group therapy; we achieve this with separate treatment programs for men and for women. Gender- specific recovery groups are designed to enhance the patient’s opportunity to form a healthy recovery support system and to address issues that may be more difficult to disclose in a co-ed group.
Benefits of Gender Specific Recovery Groups
- Ability to focus on gender specific topics (e.g., trauma and relationship issues)
- Better group cohesion
- Less distractions
- Healthier peer support
Stepping into group for some people can be a completely new and anxiety-provoking experience. The Recovery Center prides itself in providing a warm, safe, and inviting atmosphere that allows each client the opportunity to heal from whatever addiction you’re suffering from. Whether it’s heroin, alcohol, meth, opiates, etc. We want to help you.
Having peers in group that understand and can relate to one’s own issues is critical. Experiencing this level of support will deepen and enrich the group experience.
Developing close, supportive relationships is a key component of treatment and in rediscovering a fullness and richness in life. If one does not feel comfortable to share, then they might withhold information that could have ultimately been resolved in group and thus improved their chance at an ongoing recovery. Specific groups for men and women make this less likely to occur, which enhances one’s ability to use the group as a means to strengthen their recovery
